Labour had a 179 majority in the House of Commons, but were well short of a majority in the House of Lords and needed Lib Dem co-operation to get legislation through there. Most of what was in the Cook-Maclennan agreement was implemented 1997 - 1999 and Blair wanted to avoid ‘fighting on two fronts’ by operating what he saw as a ‘big tent policy’ keeping Paddy on board and precluding the Lib Dems from more outspoken criticism of his Government.

Certainly the route the French Socialists are taking to dig themselves out of the mire.

She agreed to it before all the A8 and A2 Eastern European nations joined and got freedom of movement.

No one in the UK had an issue with free movement pre 2004 - nearly 15 years after she left office.

Hey mate, I know we've had our disagreements (and I'm truly sorry for the moments when I know I have gone over the top) - but I have a query whereto you might be able to assist. I'm just wondering if you could recommend a tax advisor, financial wizard, accountant who specialises in high earners etc. Because my tax bills are becoming insanely eye-watering. And I am wondering if I am missing out on LEGAL avoidance schemes that might mitigate things. I am genuinely worried I could go virtually bankrupt thanks to my own stupidity.

All I need is 30 minutes of someone's time, when they can look at my tax bill and breakdown (I'm paying £150,000 this year) and say Wow, that's too much, a sole trader like you should only be paying x%, or they could say Nope, that's about right, there's no legal way to avoid, just bite the bullet and stop moaning

    Any idea?

    Best wishes

    Sean
